Dragonfire Chi Lin Honored in The Morgan Horse Magazine

Dragonfire Chi Lin (Greenmead’s Pioneer x Ramona Fawn)

Dragonfire Chi Lin was foaled in 1978 as one of the first foals produced by the then fledgling, Dragonfire Farm. The mare was a forward, working type horse and was herself a many time Regional winner with her young owner/rider Jennifer Forrest in Hunters, Dressage and Equitation. But where she really made her mark was as a producer of World Champion performance horses for Dragonfire Farm. These foals in turn went on to produce World Champions themselves, carrying on Chi Lin’s legacy.

Chi Lin’s first foal is perhaps her most famous, Dragonfire Kublakhan. By U.C. Viscount, Kublakhan was a dynamic pairing of working lines crossed with show lines. Ridden by Jennifer (Chang) McFall, Kublakhan was a many time World Champion in Dressage, Hunters and Jumpers. He was one of the first Morgans to break into the upper levels of Three Day Eventing, winning over scores of fans as he climbed the ranks all the way to the Advanced Level. He was the USEA Morgan of the Year several times, he was voted the People’s Choice Sport Horse of the Century, and still graces the cover of the “A” Pony Club Manual. At 28 years of age, he is an invaluable part of the Academy @ Dragonfire Lesson Program.

Dragonfire Ladyhawke, a full sibling to Kublakhan, became a World Champion in Dressage with her owner/rider Margaret Cunningham. Interestingly, her only two foals were by Cedar City Penbrook and they both became World Champions. Dragonfire Marley took Oklahoma victory passes in Dressage, Hunter Pleasure, and Jumpers for Dragonfire Farm, while Celeste Aida won in Dressage with Margaret.

Chi Lin’s stallion son, Dragonfire Kirin, is also by Cedar City Penbrook. Campaigned by Jennifer McFall in Sport and Show disciplines alike, Kirin met success in whatever arena he was in. By age 5, he had won multiple World titles, in Dressage and Hunter Pleasure (including the Open) and had competed through Training Level Eventing. As a sire, he has produced much loved performers as RWC Lightyear, and the great producing mare, Dragonfire Nova. Nova’s offspring include Dragonfire Shaolin, a RWC in Park Harness and In Hand, along with back to back victories in Gentlemen’s Am. Pleasure Driving. Dragonfire Nefertiti, who is also out of Nova is a RWC in Hunter Pleasure and a crowd pleaser wherever she goes.

Dragonfire Chi Lin has quietly played an integral part in shaping the standards for today’s Morgan in both Sport and Show. She has had a lasting impact on the breed and continues to do so with the success of her descendants.

But, considering the fact that I could get around the farm in a canoe as well as on a horse lately, makes me appreciate that show's sunshine all the more! d at the farm. We couldn't be more proud of this ambassador for our breeding program as he is as consistent as he is athletic. In his second Training outing, he placed at the top again, this time in fourth place. Hanah shows her Morgan flair for style over a fence at the Novice level and finished in seventh in great form.

Katie Klooster escaped from the lab at UC Davis and competed with her own EMR Windchester (another Morgan Horse) after a four year hiatus. They didn't look like they had any time off at all, and tore up the Novice track...with only a few, tiny, itsy bitsy speed-faults to show for it. After a stock tie incident in the Dressage that will remain a secret ;-), Christina had one of the most forward stadium rounds she has ever produced. After that clear in the stadium ring, and a bit of luck across country, she added yet another ribbon to her growing collection.

High Times had a very positive outing in the Preliminary division with two clean goes in both the stadium and the cross country phases with Jennifer McFall riding. This young star certainly has an exciting career ahead of him.

Rain Doesn't Damper Dragonfire Performances at Ram Tap

The cold, rain and mud in Fresno couldn't keep a good rider/horse/team down! Despite facing frostbitten noses and very high dry cleaning bills, our riders were tough and ready for action at the Ram Tap Winter Horse Trials.

Dragonfire put forth a victorious Training Level Team consisting of two experienced campaigners and two very exciting rookies. Natalie Jensen gave a solidly consistent ride to her flashy gelding, Wrigley in each phase of the competition. She was all business as she clocked around the cross country to finish in a strong second place in the Sr. Training division. Earl and Oscar were also part of this team, with solid rides in all three phases and a fourth place in Open Training. Caroline Dein showed what she was made of as she tackled her maiden Training Level performance and first ever corner. (I'd say judging by the picture below, there wasn't much cause for anxiety!). After an "expressive" Dressage test in the mud, Caroline piloted Will Power around two beautiful jumping rounds and a sixth place finish in Jr. Training. Infinite is the apple of his owner Tracy Felt's eye and he did not fail to impress at Ram Tap. With Earl McFall aboard, he was stylish in his move up into the Training Level ranks, gaining a second place finish in the Open Training.

Dragonfire's 2010 Student of the Year, Christina Underwood was a total rockstar aboard the Dark Knight. After TWO double clear rounds (a first for her), she moved up to third place in the Sr. Beginner Novice AND managed to have the time of her life in the mud. Way to go!

Merriewold Hanah absolutely loves to jump, and is in her most natural state during the cross country. Her rhythm was impeccable and form was text book as she ended seventh in the Open Novice division. Art in Motion had his move up to Novice with his owner Natalie Jensen. After being a little intimidated in the stadium ring, he took the cross country by storm (pun intended) and ended on a very positive note. Speaking of positive, Merissa Underwood did not have the weekend she had hoped for, but she certainly had the attitude that all trainers hope for, which will take her far in this tough sport of Eventing!

Lucid Opposition Breaks Records

Lucid Opposition's marks in her recent Dressage Test. She was ridden by Jennifer McFall in a CWD saddle.

WOW! That's about all we could say after getting Lucy's Dressage Test back at the Twin Rivers Combined Test. Though you can't see it in the picture above, the total penalty score for her test was a "9"!

Of course, she is bred to be a champion like so many other of her siblings by Fleetwater Opposition. But, with a year and a half off to be bred, and only a handful of weeks back under saddle, she exceeded all expectations by a mile! After earning this phenomenal score, she went on to jump clean and win her first show back.

Heraldik xx

Heraldik xx, was one of Germany’s most popular TB Stallions, with a full book of over 200 mares per season. Heraldik xx came in to breeding after a long and successful International Show Jumping career where he participated in Nation’s Cups and other Grand Prix. Heraldik xx is inbred to Nearco xx (Lucky Boy xx, Sacramento Song xx and Marlon xx) as well as Hurry On xx (foundation sire of Furioso xx). Heraldik xx is approved for 13 different registries, including the Hannoverian, Westfalian, Oldenburg, Holsteiner, RPS and Trakehner stud books. Heraldik was rated #1 in the 2010 World Sire Rankings for Eventing and #18 in Dressage. He had several sons competing in the WEG this year in both Eventing and Jumping. Heraldik is the dam sire of the the WEG Eventing Gold Medalist.

Master Imp

Ireland’s most successful Thoroughbred sire for sport horses, Master Imp is by the Hugh Lupus sire Imperious. He was a most beautiful stallion with outstanding paces, which reflect the success of his offspring in Dressage. Hugh Lupus also sired Heathersett who has had a major influence on German dressage and jumping breeding. Master Imp carries some of the greatest galloping and jumping genes of all times with two crosses of HYPERION, two crosses of Pharlaris three crosses of Teddy, five crosses of Bay Ronald, and 11 crosses of St Simon. Master Imp was ranked #2 in the 2010 World Sire Rankings for Eventing and is the sire to American super stars Ringwood Magister and Mandiba.

Donnerhall

Donnerhall is approved for Oldenburg, Hanovarian, Westphalian, Holstein, Bavarian, Baden-Wurttemberg, Hessen, KWPN, Danish Warmblood. He managed like no other sire of his generation to combine success in breeding and in sport alike. In 1986 Donnerhall was the German DLG Champion in Hanover. After many wins in Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and freestyle classes at International level he became German champion in Mannheim in 1994, team world champion and individual bronze medal winner in The Hague. This was followed by another climax in 1997: Team gold and individual bronze at the European Dressage Championships in Verden. In 1998 he was once more included in the German world championship team and was a member of the gold medal team in Rome, where he attained fourth place in the individual results. Donnerhall won the World Cup European League, as well as being the Oldenburg dressage stallion of the year in 1997 and 1998 respectively. In the 2010 World Sire Rankings, he was #2 for Dressage.

Cavalier Royale

Cavalier Royale is by COR DE LA BRYERE, probably the leading sire in the world of top performers in all three disciplines and a world class sire of sires he has in excess of 50 approved sons at stud worldwide. Corlandus, Chanel K, Classic Touch, Calvaro, Caletto I and II, Corlando and Cordeka immediately coming to mind. Cavalier Royale himself had a successful career in Switzerland and on the continent, Cavalier graduated up the ranks to Grade A, and was a multiple Grand Prix winner. He also jumped 2m 15 (over 7 feet) in Puissance in Germany. After being imported to Ireland, he is the only sire to challenge the total supremacy of Clover Hill. In the 2010 World Sire Rankings, he was #4 in Eventing.

Linaro

As champion stallion of his 100 Day test in 1991 Linaro went on to win the German riding horse championships in Verden. Linaro is also approved Danish Warmblood, Hannovarian and Oldenburg Verband. Linaro produces just about more Premium foals every year than anyone else. His offspring are characterized by their legginess and unmistakable beauty. He is also able to pass on his dark brown color, huge, elastic movement and jumping prowess. Linaro produced the Champion Stallion at the 1997 Hosteiner stallion approvals in Neumunster, Germany. His offspring in the U.S. are proving to be very exciting competitors for Eventing.

Fleetwater Opposition

Fleetwater Opposition is a world famous sire of Olympic Event horses, such as Summer Song. He himself won the Junior European 3 Day Event Individual and Team Gold Medals. He was also a highly successful Advanced Dressage stallion with impeccable bloodlines. He is closely related to Almox Prints J the Olympic Show Jumper and Pepel the Olympic Dressage Silver Medallist. He won Elite Graded Double Gold Medallist 3 Day Eventer & Advanced Dressage Stallion, was the Winner of the Sporthorse Breeding (GB) Lifetime Achievement Award, and Winner of the Trakehner Breeders Fraternity Lifetime Excellence Award. He is currently ranked #9 in the World Rankings for Eventing with British phenom, Opposition Buzz, being part of the Gold Medal WEG Team.

Ariadus

Ariadus is strikingly beautiful with a super temperament combined with absolutely correct conformation. Ariadus is from Accord II, himself a 100 Day Test champion. Accord II is widely regarded as an important contributor in Europe. He was the leading sire for mares bred in Germany. Ariadus received a "9" on type and "8's" on both front and hind legs; a score seldom seen. Ariadus is by Accord II(Ahorn) out of a Latus II (Landgraf)/Laertes mare. Ariadus' granddam is the dam of CAPITOL, legendary sire from Holstein. Ariadus was 4th at the 1995 stallion approvals in Neumunster. He produces champions in all sport disciplines with outstanding temperaments.

Calido

Calido I completed his stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf in 1994, placing fourth in his age class with a score of 140. Calido I received the incredible score of 10.0 for jumping ability as well as the highest jumping index of 53 contenders. In 1996 Calido won 22 show jumping competitions up to the intermediate level and was successful at the Federal German Showjumping Championships. Calido's tremendous show jumping talent is passed onto his offspring. Calido I has sired 15 approved stallions in seven countries. In 2010, he was rated #13 in the World Sire Rankings. He is not only a very sought after show jumping sire, he also has produced eventing super stars such as Lady Calido.

Dragonfire Kirin

Dragonfire Kirin holds World Champion titles in Four Year Old Hunter Pleasure, Open Hunter Pleasure, Youth Hunter Pleasure, Training Level Dressage, First Level Dressage Open and Amateur, and Second Level Dressage. He has countless national and regional titles to his credit. Kirin has an incredible work ethic, a very kind and gentle nature, and three good gaits with an exceptional uphill canter. Kirin is not just a performance horse; he has outstanding conformation as well. With a smooth topline and short back, he is double registered as a Morgan and an American Warmblood, winning the gold medal for being the best horse at the inspection in Northern California that year. He comes by his athleticism naturally, as he is a maternal brother to one of the greatest Morgan eventers of all time, Dragonfire Kublakhan. Kirin's get are successfully competing in a number of divisions.

Grand Cru Beaujolais

Arguably, Grand Cru Beaujolais is one of the most beautiful examples of the Morgan Western Pleasure Horse in the country. He is a three-time World Champion winning the Four-year-old Championship in 2003, the Open Championship in 2004 and, again, in 2010. You can't get prettier lines in the Morgan breed.

Minion Millennium

Undisputedly one of the top sires of Morgan World Champions in the country, MINION MILLENNIUM provides size, athletic ability, long well set necks and beautiful, smooth bodies. His progeny to date include World Champions such as 5x WC Cherrydale Casseopia, WC Cherrydale Melania, WC Harlan's Dutch Fantasy, RWC Dragonfire Timeless, GNC Bri-B XTC, GNC MSV Genuine Risk, and RGNC MSV Miss Judy, as well as Breeder Sweepstakes/Weanling Gala Grand Champions The New Millennium, Jaklee Bravo Papa, the All-American Yearling Sweepstakes Champion RWJ Mille, and the Circle J Yearling Sweepstakes Reserve Champion Alivia.

A New Star For Dragonfire at the Morgan World Championships

We couldn't be more proud of our own Dragonfire Timeless and his performances at the 2010 Morgan Grand National and World Championships. Capturing both the Four Year Old Hunter Pleasure Reserve World Championship and the reserve in the National qualifier, Timmy displayed his powerful movement in the most graceful package.

By the outstanding producing sire, Minion Millennium, and out of the late, great Raintree Ala Bella, Timmy is easily one of the most fun horses I have ever shown. He has a forward and floating trot that he can extend easily without losing balance or tempo. His canter is so light and slow, that I often find myself daydreaming without a care in the world. And let's not forget his flat footed and relaxed walk! All of this, AND he is arguably one of the prettiest Hunters out there. It was an absolute joy for me to compete and win with Timmy throughout the 2010 show season.

Timeless is surely destined to follow in the footsteps of our many Dragonfire champions before him, and be a favorite in Oklahoma City for many, many years to come!
